Google snaps up Snapseed to rival Instagram

Snapspeed

Google has now completed the acquisition of photography app developer Nik Software for an undisclosed fee.

Snapseed is now in the hands of search engine giant Google, putting it in fierce competition with Facebook in the Instagram Snapseed rivalry.

Photo editing service Snapseed is available for iOS, Mac and PC users. The iPad edition was named 'App of the Year' by Apple in 2011, and gained 9 million users in its first 12 months on the market.

“We are pleased to announce that Google has acquired Nik Software. For nearly 17 years, we've been guided by our motto, 'photography first', as we worked to build world class digital image editing tools,” said Nik Software.

“We've always aspired to share our passion for photography with everyone, and with Google's support we hope to be able to help many millions more people create awesome pictures.

“We're incredibly grateful for all of your support and hope you'll join us on the next phase of our journey as part of Google.”

An Android edition of Snapseed is said to be in the process of construction for mobile phones and tablets running the operating system.
