Fujifilm launches X-E1
Our testers have raved about it's big brother, the X-Pro1, so we're excited to see Fuji finally announce the arrival of the much rumoured second X Series interchangable-lens camera, the Fujifilm X-E1. The camera allegedly offers the same image quality as 35mm full frame D-SLR sensors, at a more affordable price than the revered X-Pro1.
The X-E1 boasts the same 16 megapixel APS-C X-Trans CMOS Sensor as the X-Pro1, packed into a smaller body, and a new OLED electronic viewfinder and built-in flash. The Fujinon XF lens X mount is also the same as its predecessor, so the X-E1 is compatible with the three existing XF lenses available, with two more arriving this year and five further additions planned for 2013.
Fuji have stayed true to their retro style with a two-tone Silver for those looking for cool retro look, and solid Black for photographers wishing to blend in with their surroundings.

In addition to the exciting announcement of the X-E1, Fuji has also announced a new lens and firmware update.
The XF lens:
The compact Fujinon "XF18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS" lens is the first short zoom lens in the Fujinon XF range.
This short zoom lens covers a range of frequently-used focal lengths from 18mm wide-angle to 55mm telephoto. The lens structure consists of 14 elements in 10 groups, including 3 aspheric and 1 extra low dispersion elements, and a seven-blade rounded diaphragm.
The linear motor-driven system is said to deliver high-speed autofocus performance of 0.1 seconds to capture those perfect photo opportunities. Silent operation is also said to make the lens suitable for video recording.
Existing users of the X-Pro1 and X-E1 are encouraged to update the firmware of their camera bodies when using these lenses for the first time.

Firmware update version 2.00 for X-Pro1:
The latest firmware updates for the X-Pro1 should see improvements to the camera’s shooting abilities, such as improved performance of autofocus, improved manual focus performance, improved writing speed/processing speed and Auto (6400) has been added to the ISO setting.
The firmware update will become available on 18 September 2012 and can be downloaded here.
