Eric Kruszewski crowned winner of the International Photography Awards

Eric Kruszewski

Portrait and documentary photographer Eric Kruszewski has been awarded first prize at the 2012 International Photography Awards in the 'travel and tourism' category.

Crowned with the title of the prestigious award, Eric’s Cuban portfolio documents the vibrant and moving images of a community in Cuba. A keen traveller who has photographed countries across the globe he has been published by National Geographic online, amongst many others.

His love of photography was sparked from a trip to India by the country’s constant energy, true emotion, colour, and pure culture which inspired Eric to capture everyday life. His sense of curiosity and passion for photography takes him across the globe where he immerses himself in different cultures and illustrates life through the lens. His craft lies in finding simple, beautiful moments in an otherwise busy and complex world.

In addition to winning the travel and tourism category, Eric has also been given an honourable mention in three other categories, 'editorial feature story', 'editorial environment' and 'people and culture', for his project looking at birth defects and environmental pollution.

The 2012 International Photography Awards received nearly 15,000 submissions from 103 countries across the globe. The award is the sister effort of the Lucie Foundation, where the top three winners are announced at the annual Lucie Awards gala ceremony. The Foundation's mission is to honour master photographers, to discover new and emerging talent and to promote the appreciation of photography. Since 2003, IPA has had the privilege and opportunity to acknowledge and recognise contemporary photographers' accomplishments in this specialised and highly visible competition.

Currently living in his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland, Eric is editing his latest project looking at the lives of the travelling carnival family where he spent two and a half months as a truck driver to tell the true tales of the carnival workers.
