Dutch photographer wins Nature Photographer of The Year title second year in a row

Marsel Van Oosten

Dutch photographer Marsel Van Oosten was awarded the title Nature Photographer of The Year 2012 at this year’s International Photography Awards (IPA). Van Ousten won first Prize in the Nature-Trees category for his entry The Valley of Death, and his winning series of five landscape photographs from Namibia also made him overall category winner.

Van Oosten also won first Prize in the Nature-Other category for his entry Dwarfed, second Prize in the Travel category for his entry Iceland, third Prize in the Wildlife category for his entry Close Encounters, and two Honourable Mentions. Van Oosten is amongst the most awarded photographers in this year’s competition.

In 2011 Van Oosten was also the winner of the title Nature Photographer of The Year, a unique achievement. He has now won a total of six first Prizes in the IPA.

As a category winner, Van Oosten is still in the race to win the title ‘International Photographer of The Year’. During the tenth annual Lucie Awards ceremony on October 8, one of the eight finalists will be crowned overall winner, earning one of the coveted Lucie statues and a cheque for $10,000.
