Over 12,000 entrants were submitted by 6,615 photographers from a staggering 152 different countries across the globe, sharing their fantastic finds that the natural world and those that make it vibrant had to offer. Documenting their travels from Afghanistan to Vietnam, the winning images showcased everything from peaceful landscapes to those unexpected moments we love to capture when exploring new places.
A handful of our favourites include the first place winner for the Sense of Place category Cedric Houin, whose beautiful photograph entitled Butterfly was taken on the Kyrgyz lands of the Wakhan Corridor. Also, Merit Winner, Lucia Griggi, for her underwater surf shot in the outer reed in Fiji, along with Peter DeMarco’s Baagan Bliss capture of a goat farmer in Baagan.
Judged on creativity and quality the judging panel included National Geographic contributing photographer Alexandra Avakian, amongst others.
