When Warhol meets Mauro

The Halcyon Gallery has announced its latest exhibition, showcasing the famous work of artist Andy Warhole alongside the work of Mauro Perucchetti.

The exhibition will be held at Halcyon’s flagship gallery, 144-146 New Bond Street and is said to represent ‘a testament to the historical importance of Warhol’s artistic developments and ingenuity, and highlights Perucchetti’s playful, yet mocking, response to the artificial exclusivity of the consumer society in which we live.’

Warhol’s Silver Liz and Double Elvis, two of his most valuable works, are to be presented to the public for the first time, portraying his obsession with celebrity culture.

Perucchetti will launch a brand new Iconic Slab series which incorporates several of his recognisable icons such as a Jelly Baby, a heart-shaped grenade and an AK47. Perucchetti’s work explores the artist’s strong views on cloning, war and politics, society and self-evaluation.

The Halcyon Gallery said that aesthetically, this exhibition is a visual feast but more importantly, the duality of Warhol and Perucchetti exemplifies Pop Art in its many evolutionary forms. Warhol created a revolutionary movement in art and culture, elevating the status of the every-day consumer and the cult of celebrity. Perucchetti reacts to consumer society through his work, challenging his audience to consider themes of death and destruction, sex and addiction, asking the viewer to question the limits of excess.

They explained that Warhol/Mauro offers an insight to Pop Art then and now. Offering both obvious and subtle parallels between the two, the exhibition is a mesmerising journey between the origin and potential destination of this genre; an explanation of where Pop Art began and how it will continue to develop and expand.

The Warhol/Mauro exhibition opens 19 July until 15 September 2012 on 144 New Bond Street, London, W1S 2RL. The opening times are Monday to Saturday 10 am – 6 pm, Sunday 11 am – 5 pm
