Award-winning photographer Henry Dallal captures Arabian peninsula for a new book collaboration with Diana Untermeyer with a forthcoming book launch in London

Henry Dallal announces the launch of his latest photographic showcase, Qatar: Sand, Sea and Sky, spectacularly illustrating an insightful book on Qatar’s ancient culture and its close links to the desert and the sea. The book is to be launched at Christie’s, London on Wednesday 11th July.

The book’s author, Diana Untermeyer, lived in this peninsula state in the Arabian Gulf from 2004 to 2007 while her husband Chase Untermeyer served as U.S. ambassador. Henry and Diana crisscrossed the country over a three year period to capture the subtle hues and magic of the desert, sea and endless sky.

Henry said: “Photographing Qatar was a hugely enjoyable experience, it was incredible to witness how fast the country is growing, and it has been a privilege to be involved in conveying Qatar’s story in pictures as this country takes its place on the world stage.”

Diana said: “Qatar has a great story to be told which has not been told in a way which is beautiful and readily available. The book summarises in words and pictures the rich heritage of the desert and the sea, and shows how that is informing Qatar’s journey into modernity. Henry still uses traditional film which creates such a beautiful atmosphere in the photographs.”

Sheikha Al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Chair of the Qatar Museum Authority, said: “I thank Henry Dallal for showcasing Qatar in such beautiful photographs.”

This collaboration follows Henry’s own successful self-published books, Horse Warriors on India’s 61st Cavalry, which won an Independent Publisher Book Award, and Pageantry and Performance on the British Household Cavalry.

Henry Dallal has been commissioned to take portraits of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as well as His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid al Maktoum, Vice President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Dubai and his wife, Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein of Jordan. He is currently working on a book on the Sultanate of Oman's Royal Cavalry and Britain’s famed King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery. Other books to which he has contributed include Endurance Racing for His Majesty King Khalifa of Bahrain, Magic of Monaco for HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, Horses and Flowers in the Park.
