Poppy De Villeneuve and HTC inspire the UK to capture the magic of 'dusk till dawn'

As the UK enjoys the season of long summer nights and bright early mornings, HTC has joined forces with internationally renowned photographer Poppy De Villeneuve to launch an inspiring nation-wide photography project. Launching on the 2nd July, ‘My Life: from Dusk Until Dawn’ aims to uncover the often unseen side of the UK. HTC and Poppy De Villeneuve are challenging the public to use smartphones to capture and share photos of their own experiences between these beautiful low-light hours.

The project invites consumers to reveal the lost hours between sunset and sunrise, by sharing themed photos of their personal ‘dusk until dawn’ experiences on Twitter @HTC_UK. At the end of the seven week campaign, a public Twitter poll will decide on one stand-out photograph and the budding photographer will be taken on an exciting Scandinavian adventure to capture the magic of the Northern Lights - the ultimate low-light photography destination.

Speaking about the campaign Poppy De Villeneuve said: “The hours of dusk and dawn provide the perfect backdrop for striking photography – the world seems calm, the light is at its lowest and the combination of these elements casts an almost magical glow on life. The HTC ‘My Life: Dusk Until Dawn’ campaign is a fantastic way to encourage people to take time out of their busy day-to-day lives to truly appreciate the UK between these hours. We wanted to inspire people to capture their own personal images and to take the time to look at their surroundings in a whole different light. With the HTC One S it’s easy to capture fantastic photography on the go. Features such as super-fast instant image capture are great for snapping the unexpected within a split-second, and the low-light function means you never one-off shot even if it’s dark.”

Throughout the campaign, which is inspired by the amazing camera on the HTC One S and its impressive low-light capabilities, Poppy De Villeneuve will be sharing her own ‘dusk until dawn’ journey through London, all taken on the HTC One S. Captured through a series of stunning stills, Poppy will share her personal photography focussed on her passions and the unique British experiences she often encounters. Those following the project will also have the chance to watch exclusive behind-the-scenes videos which explain exactly how Poppy captured her own imagery on the HTC One S. The insightful clips will also recommend which high-performance camera functions consumers can use to take the perfect shots, whilst offering a captivating insight into Poppy’s own personal experiences and influences between these hours.

Poppy de Villeneuve is an expert when it comes to smartphone photography, having broken the boundaries by making the first Instagram music video for The Vaccines, for their song 'Wetsuit', by creatively collating hundreds of images taken by fans from across the globe. Most recently, Poppy has been directing new digital media projects worldwide and regularly photographing editorial shoots for publications including The New York Times, The Telegraph, and Vogue Magazine. An established British photographer and film director, Poppy is most often found roaming the UK and US finding inspiration in the ordinary and is encouraging the British public to engage in HTC’s project to uncover the extraordinary in their everyday ‘Dusk Until Dawn’ experiences.

James Atkins, Head of Marketing for HTC UK & Ireland said: “Over the coming weeks, we’re looking forward to seeing the hidden side of the UK between dusk and dawn. The photography campaign provides a fascinating insight into what people see and experience, but also encourages everybody to use their smartphones to capture those magical moments. The amazing camera capabilities and low light function of the new HTC One S means you can now capture a shot between dusk or dawn in just 0.7 seconds and the results will be stunning, even in low-light conditions.”

How ‘My Life: Dusk Until Dawn’ photography campaign works

The photography campaign will run as a seven week Twitter campaign. Each week HTC and Poppy will launch a new image category inviting consumers to capture and submit their favourite images, taken on a smartphone, which fit the weekly theme. The categories are designed to bring to life personal experiences with a focus on scenery, friends, inspirations, style and travel. As an inspiration for consumers to enter their own images, Poppy will release her own exclusive themed images each week via Twitter.

Each week throughout the campaign, Poppy will shortlist her chosen photography entries, which will be put to a vote on Twitter. At the end of the campaign, all of the weekly winners will be put forward for a final Twitter community vote where the public will decide on their favourite image from the whole campaign. The winner will be awarded a once-in-a-lifetime trip for two to see the Northern Lights.
