'Monochrome' International Garden Photographer of the Year winners announced

Annemarie Farley first place

Winners of the 'Monochrome' Photo Projects category for the The International Garden Photographer of the Year competition have been announced.

Annemarie Farley was awarded first place for her captivating 'Lilac Rose' photograph which focused on the petals of the flower, and its unique shape and structure. The image was then softened post capture to emphasise the romantic and delicate essence of the rose.

Second place was awarded to Sarah-fiona Helme for her brilliant shot of a bumble bee clinging to an Allium flower head as it moved in the breeze. Polina Plotkinova received third prize for her captivating white studio image of a Chrysanthemum.

Finalist and commended photographs in the Monochrome category also featured alluring views of gardens and nature, illustrative garden scenes, fascinating details of plants and intricate studio shots, including photographs from the Palace of Monserrate in Portugal, Yuni Gardens in Japan and cactus blooms photographed on the side of a road in Australia.

The International Garden Photographer of the Year competition is now calling for entries for its 'Macro Art' themed Photo Projects category- the deadline is 31 May 2012.

The winner of the Photo Projects category wins a cash prize of £500 and a copy of the latest IGPOTY book, 'International Garden Photographer of the Year Collection 5' (published in March 2012). Entries cost £10 for 4 images and can be made online at www.igpoty.com
