The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) has launched its global search for the most inspirational and creative garden photography. Amateur and professional photographers of all ages are invited to submit their entries online, for the chance to be crowned RHS Photographer of the Year and win £1,000.

The RHS Photographic Competition was first hosted at RHS Garden Rosemoor in 1997. Since then the competition has grown vastly, attracting thousands of entries from around the world.

Adult categories range from wildlife and people in the garden, to plant portraits. Children and young photographers are also invited to compete for the coveted RHS Young Photographer of the Year title, and prizes include a digital camera and photographic vouchers.

James Arnold, the Competition Organiser said: "At the RHS we believe that photography plays a really important role in capturing the magic and diversity of the natural world around us."

Stephen Webb, last year's RHS Photographer of the Year, said: "Winning the competition last year was amazing. It led to some great experiences, including an appearance on The Alan Titchmarsh Show, an interview on BBC radio and talks at local photography clubs. I thoroughly encourage photographers, whatever their skill level, to grab their cameras, get outdoors and start capturing images for this year's competition."

Entries can be submitted online at www.rhs.org.uk/photocompetition until 31 August 2012. All entrants also have the chance to win the Medici Cards Award, publishing the sponsor's choice of photograph as a greeting card.
