Celebrity judges announced for Vimeo festival and awards

Vimeo today announced its panel of judges for its 2012 Vimeo Festival and Awards.

Set up by the online footage sharing platform, the awards celebrate the best in online video and will be judged by a celebrity panel from different backgrounds for its 13 categories.

Actor and director James Franco, Parks and Recreation Star Aziz Ansari, 2012 Oscar Nominee Lucy Walker and Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood will all feature as well as snowboard superstar Travis Rice, Thierry Mugler and UNIQLO creative director Nicola Formichetti. Also casting their opinion, will be Shelly Page of DreamWorks Animation, Barbara London of The Museum of Modern Art and advertising legend David Droga alongside many others.

There will be three judges per category and the winner of each category will receive a grant of $5,000. The Grand Prize winner will receive a $25,000 grant to produce new work.

Jeremy Boxer, Director of the Vimeo Festival and Awards said:"The aim of the Vimeo Festival and Awards is to become the gold standard for creative online video. We designed the program to focus on discovering the best new talent and to give that talent a platform that will catapult their careers to the next level. We are proud to reveal our new panel of esteemed judges."

Eliot Rausch, 2010 Vimeo Award Grand Prize Winner, said of the awards: "Vimeo created a platform that has changed the language of storytelling. The way we share our innermost being has been flipped on its head — a true revolution of consciousness. It is indescribable, the feeling I have after winning the award, knowing my voice has been heard, that millions have been touched and maybe the world is better because of it."

The deadline for the awards is 20 February and judges are now preparing to honour the creators behind the best original videos available on the web. Entrants can submit any original work as long as it premiered online between July 31, 2010 and February 20, 2012, or any original work that has never premiered anywhere. All of last years winners will be one of this years Judges per relevant category.
