Joe Cornish turns holiday snaps into exhibition
Renowned landscape photographer Joe Cornish has decided to turn his holiday photographs into an exciting new exhibition.
Best known for his photographs of the sweeping north east of England, award-winning photographer Joe Cornish is showing photographs of a very different nature in his new exhibition A Ladakh Journey – trekking in the Indian Himalaya, currently at Joe Cornish Galleries.
The photographs were taken during Joe’s 2012 summer trekking holiday in Ladakh, the northern-most region of the Indian Himalaya mountains. Unusually for Joe, the exhibition includes portraits of the people of Ladakh and interiors of the accommodation of the region, along with Joe’s usual landscape photographs.
Joe said, “It was not primarily a photographic trip. However, that did not imply I was going there without a camera. In essence these images represent memories, always one of the primary functions of photography after all, of an experience which will live with me for a long time, not least thanks to the wonderful people I travelled with, our outstanding and charming Ladakhi guide team, and those we met along the way. Perhaps that is why in the end I have included images in the exhibition that are mainly about people and place.”
The exhibition will be at Joe Cornish Galleries, Northallerton, until 23 November. The launch party will take place on Friday 26 October 2012 from 7.30-9pm.
