Copycats urged to submit photocopies to photo exhibition

Some of the work from the 'The Photocopy Club'

Photocopiers aren’t known for being the most inspiring of office centrepieces let’s face it.

But a new exhibition of photocopied photographic work from across the globe, proves a cult of artful copiers are on the scene – and other keen copycats are being urged to submit their pieces.

‘The Photocopy Club’ display, which is to be held at Beach Gallery in Shoreditch, London from 2-5 February and Create in Brighton on 18 April, features photocopied and Xeroxed images sent by postal submission, and is designed to take photography away from the internet and bring prints back into the hands of the public as an affordable art form.

The best submissions from the project, which began in November 2011, will be curated into a limited edition book and all photocopies will be on sale for £2 to £5, depending on size, with proceeds contributing to the manufacture of the book.

The Beach London exhibition is open for entries up until 15 January 2012 and are to be sent to The Photocopy Club, Unit D-E Level 2 South, New England Street, Brighton, East Sussex, BN1 4GH.

The exhibition times are as follows:

Beach Gallery, 20 Cheshire Street, Shoreditch. London 6 – 9pm

Create, Unit D & E Level 2 South, New England House, New England St, Brighton BN1 4GH 6 – 9pm

  1. Since these photocopies are likely to include photographs, isn't at some point, the issue of copyright ownership, going to give the organisers and publishers a few headaches?
