Nikon toughens up with COOLPIX AW100

Nikon AW100 price and release date confirmed

Nikon has announced its first rugged compact camera, the Nikon COOLPIX AW100, designed specifically for outdoor use.

Waterproof to 10m, freeze-proof to temperatures of -10C and shockproof from heights up to 1.5m, Nikon claims the AW100 is robust enough for any activity.

Also on board the new Nikon compact camera is a built-in GPS function for geo-tagging your images, an electronic compass and a built-in world map.

Other key features include a 16-megapixel, back-illuminated CMOS sensor and dedicated low light modes, a 5x optical zoom and full HD video recording with stereo sound.

The Nikon AW100 comes in camouflage, orange and black and will be available from September. The Nikon AW100 price tag sits at £329.99.
