Scottish amateur wins Landscape Photographer of the Year

Landscape Photographer of the Year 2011 winner

An amateur photographer from Scotland has scooped this year’s Landscape Photographer of the Year award, it has been revealed.

The annual competition, launched by master landscape photographer Charlie Waite, has been won by Scottish photographer Robert Fulton for his image ‘Winter Field in Snow’ (see above).

Roger’s winning image was among 170 shortlisted in the competition and nets him the overall title of Landscape Photographer of the Year, as well as the £10,000 prize.

Robert, from Cumbernault, said: “Phenomenal news! I’m stunned - it’s hard to get my head round it. I know lots of landscape photographers, both amateur and professional, who regard this competition as being the ‘THE BIG ONE’ so to be told that I’m the overall winner is a tremendous accolade.”

Robert becomes the fifth overall winner of the Landscape Photographer of the Year title.

Other winners include 14-year-old Oscar Stewart-Packe, from London, who bagged the Young Landscape Photographer of the Year award, while Tim Harvey, Baxter Bradford, Howard Kingsnorth and Peter Clark won their categories in Classic View, Living the View, Urban View and Your View, respectively.

The winning and commended entries from the Landscape Photographer of the Year competition will be displayed at at the National Theatre in London from 5 December through 28 January 2012.

What’s more, the images will be included in the Landscape Photographer of the Year: Collection 5 coffee table book, published on 31 October, priced £25.
