Canon EOS 500D released

EOS 500D

Canon has released a 15.1 megapixel camera capable of capturing high definition video.

The EOS 500D, aimed squarely at the enthusiast market, offers an ISO sensitivity of 3200, which Canon claims can be increased to 12800.

The camera is capable of shooting up to 3.4 fps in bursts of up to 170 JPEGs depending on the speed and size of the memory card. It carries the same LCD screen as the 5D Mark II and also bears the EOS cleaning system for removing dust and dirt from the sensor.

It is compatible with the complete range of Canon’s EF and EF-S lenses and EX-series Speedlites.

The camera will be availalbe from the start of May. Body only, the EOS 500D is priced at £869.99. The EOS 500D with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens kit is priced at £969.99. The EOS 500D with EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Kit is priced at £1399.99

  • 9-point wide area AF with cross type centre point
  • High speed DIGIC 4 performance and superb image quality
  • EOS Integrated Cleaning System
  • Full compatibility with Canon EF and EF-S lenses and EX-series Speedlites, including new Speedlite 270EX, TS-E 17mm f/4L and the TS-E 24mm f/3.5L II

In related news Canon has also released the entry-level Speedlite 270EX flash for EOS and PowerShot users.

The flash features a zoom head, which means the light can be directed as required. It is available from May priced at £149.99.

  1. i just received the full tech of this camera,i think we can expect the 450d to come down in price heavily in the coming year,15.1mp hd video this eos is a real monster

  2. Wow! I was thinking of up grading to the 5Dmk11, now i think i may hang on till May. even the 50D i was thinking of getting also, before this release hit me!

  3. does anyone know what the real megapixel size is? although advertised as 15,1, when multiplying the raw file output size (4272x2849) you get an output of what would be 12.2 megapixels.

  4. Hi david, i've just been doing some digging around on the Canon website and the max pic size for the 500D is: 4752 x 3168... so rounding up it would be 15.1 megapixels. Hope this helps.
