Acclaimed photographer Martin Hartley and award-winning travel writer Polly Evans will lead visitors to a breathtaking wilderness of icy terrains, plummeting temperatures and glittering, golden light as they uncover the secrets of Canada’s Arctic at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) on Wednesday 11 November.

An informative evening for travellers wishing to experience the region for the first time, Discovering the Canadian Arctic includes a Q&A with the expert panel, informal drinks, and opportunities to find out what the area has to offer from a variety of exhibitors.

Martin, whose in-depth technical knowledge, creative vision and ability to produce results in the most difficult of conditions makes him a highly sought after expedition and adventure photographer, will offer his tips for capturing the startlingly beauty of this remote territory, where wolves and reindeers outnumber the human population.

Polly, whose most recent book, Mad Dogs and an Englishwoman, describes her three month long dog-sledding drama in the sub-zero wilderness of Canada's Yukon Territory, will explain why she feels such warmth towards this seemingly inhospitable environment.

From kayaking and hiking trips in summer to snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and reindeer-sledding in winter, the Canadian Arctic offers an exhilarating experience to intrepid tourists throughout the year.

‘’Discovering the Canadian Arctic’ will take place between 7-9pm on Wednesday 11 November at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG), 1 Kensington Gore, London SW7 2AR. The nearest tube station is South Kensington. Visitors should use the Kensington Gore entrance.

Tickets are £10 for RGS-IBG members, £15 for non-members and include wine and an information pack about the region. For more details contact events@rgs.org or 0207 591 3100.
