National Geographic is renowned for its superb photography and each year, this competition from National Geographic Kids - the planet’s best-selling children’s magazine - inspires and celebrates budding photographers from all over the world.

The magazine’s British Isles edition launches the National Geographic Kids International Photography Competition 2011 in its September issue, on sale 24 August.

With four categories to enter – People, Scenery, Animals and Humour – children aged 14
and under
are invited to submit their photographs for judging by a panel which includes National Geographic explorers-in-residence, Dereck and Beverly Joubert, and children’s TV presenter, Andy Akinwolere. The competition aims to engage children’s creativity, help them hone their talents and discover their individual outlooks. “I want to see how kids see the world around them – I bet it’s different to what I see,” says judge Dereck Joubert, an accomplished wildlife filmmaker.

The overall British Isles winner will scoop an 11-day family adventure holiday to India, where they’ll visit the Taj Mahal, camp out in the desert, explore Delhi by rickshaw and go on a tiger safari, courtesy of adventure travel experts Explore. They will also win a Nikon D3100 digital SLR camera, while the other category winners will each receive a Nikon Coolpix S3100.

All prize-winning images will then be entered into the National Geographic International Photography Contest 2011 For Kids, where they will compete with those of other National Geographic Kids readers from all over the world for the Grand Prize - a trip to National Geographic HQ in Washington, USA with a parent or guardian. The photographs will also be printed in National Geographic Kids magazine and appear in an exhibition at the National Geographic Store in Regent Street, London.

The competition closing date is 31 October 2011, and entrants must be aged 14 or under. Entry forms can be found in National Geographic Kids magazine and online at www.ngkids.co.uk
