— Win £1,000
— Shoot for Eureka
— Exhibit at the Royal Institution

At Eureka we think that original, elegant photography can help to make science come alive for our readers. Many of the photographers we have commissioned have won awards for the work they have done for us. Now, with the help of Science Photo Library and the Royal Institution, we want to find new young talent, so we are launching our first photography competition.

Brief
We’d like you to find a subject that has an interesting science, technology, architecture, environment or engineering angle and photograph or film it in a compelling way. Then, in a maximum of 100 words, you should explain why your subject is worthy of featuring in Eureka, ie, what is the story behind it?

Who can enter?
Student, professional or non-professional photographers from the UK or ROI, aged between 18 and 26.

How to enter
Go to www.thetimes.co.uk/eurekaphoto for details of how to enter, and all terms and conditions (you do not need a Times subscription to enter the competition).

The judges
Jon Jones — Director of Photography, The Sunday Times Magazine
Jim Al-Khalili — Physicist, author, broadcaster
Giles Revell — Award-winning photographer, artist
Rose Taylor — Editor, Science Photo Library
Madeleine Penny — Picture editor, Eureka

All three winners’ work will be exhibited at the Royal Institution
in Central London in June 2012. The overall winner will be commissioned by Eureka for a particular project, which will feature in a subsequent edition of the magazine.
